Last week, we began discussing the long e sound at the end of 2 syllable words when it is spelled with a y. For example, happy, silly, funny, … I made this poster to hang on our board as a reminder to students that Y can take the sound of an e.
Next week when we discuss the long i sound in one syllable words spelled with a y (my, try,…), I will make a new poster saying that Y is at it again.
Love the anchor chart!!!

Is it really a hard and fast rule that Y sounds like i or e based on the number of syllables in the word?! I always just teach that it sometimes can sound like one or the other. I guess you're never too old to learn something new! 🙂
