Nonfiction in October
Honestly, I love all of the fun topics to teach in October! Between the cool weather, spooky bats, and fall festivals, there is always something special to add to lessons! On top of this, there are so many incredible nonfiction books to bring out for read alouds. Since students always focus best during themed lessons, I love incorporating as many as possible throughout the month. So, let’s explore October Nonfiction Reading and Comprehension to see how to bring this excitement to your classroom! Students will love reading nonfiction in October with this resource.Â
October Nonfiction Reading and Comprehension
There are so many excellent aspects of October that students love! For instance, there are bats, owls, and pumpkins. However, it is also Fire Safety Month, which many students do not realize. Thankfully, there are reading and comprehension passages for all of these topics and more!
Monthly Unit
The nonfiction in October units are perfect for integrating reading with science and social studies! Thankfully, this helps teach all the standards since it is always challenging to find time to do this.
Each monthly unit includes reading passages, comprehension questions, vocabulary, writing, anchor charts, and more! On top of this, the questions all have students work on finding text evidence, which is a challenging skill to learn! Students will show so much growth in multiple skills when working on these passages.Â
Topics
While reading nonfiction in October, students will learn about bats, spiders, owls, pumpkins, and fire safety. Thankfully, these topics always mean students are super engaged in lessons while learning about life!Â
Grade Level
The October Nonfiction Reading and Comprehension have first and second-graders in mind. However, they can also work for other grades based on the ability of students. Since teachers know their students the best, they can determine if the passages will fit the needs of students. Students will love the fun and exciting passages!
A Year of Nonfiction
Students will love reading nonfiction in October! Thankfully, there are monthly units for the entire school year! Each month features 4-5 nonfiction topics students will enjoy learning more about. For instance, they will learn about community helpers and safety skills in August and turkeys and Veteran’s Day in November. Additionally, they will learn about President’s Day in February and polar bears in January. There are so many relevant themes each month as students explore the world around them.Â
There is so much to learn about each year! However, teachers know that math, science, social studies, and reading are not the only standards. In addition, students learn Social-Emotional skills and all about aspects of life. Thankfully, the October Nonfiction Reading and Comprehension passages create the perfect way to do this! Students will love reading nonfiction in October while learning about fascinating topics.
